ABOUT ME
Iām Laura and I love my job! My sessions are fun, and the children and young people I see have such a blast! They learn and develop their skills, often without even realising it. The key is building a trusting relationship and designing sessions that pique their interest.
I am an occupational therapist with nearly 20 years of experience, specialising in neurological rehabilitation for the past 12 years. Since returning to work from maternity leave after having my second daughter, I realised my true passion for working with children and younger people was very present. The opportunity to complete a Sensory Integration qualification came about, so I jumped at this chance.
During this time, I have completed additional training, gained lots of experience working with children and young people, and continue to receive mentoring support from an Advanced Sensory Integration Practitioner on a bimonthly basis.

How I work
-
Child-led
Child, young person or adult-led goals are vital for true collaboration and engagement in their therapy. Whilst interventions are tailored for the client's ability and interests, the direction they go in is the magical bit... it could be anywhere! That's where my skill in going with the flow and adapting the activity in the moment comes in.

Through play
Rehabilitation does not have to be work... it needs to be fun. No matter the age, everyone engages and participates better when their therapy is fun!

Strength-based
Some children are bruised by the education system because they do not fit the mould. I focus on building their confidence and self-acceptance by enabling them to identify their strengths and find the things that give them joy.
